Environmental Events 2017
The Summer Gathering is THE key event for people who will be involved in running People & Planet groups and campaigns next year. A three day long training event, this is your chance to meet and learn from other P&Pers, to prepare to build a strong, sustainable group, and to build our national network.
With workshops, bonfires and probably a ceilidh, the Summer Gathering is Britain’s best activist training event. With training from Laurie Penny, Kat Banyard, Danny Chivers and more, if you're not there, you'll be missing out.
Book now, make sure you’ve invited all your group members, and make sure you are as excited as we are. We'll see you there.
PEOPLE AND PLANET
People and Planet is the largest student network in Britain campaigning to end world poverty, defend human rights and protect the environment. The People & Planet network consists of groups at Universities, Colleges and Schools, plus many other individual supporters, supported by an office staff team. Take alook at their website for some new and interesting ideas for your Christmas shopping www.peopleandplanet.org/
There are 77 People & Planet groups in sixth forms and further education colleges. They are exploring global issues and campaigning on both Fairtrade and Climate Change. Fairtrade campaigning involves positive local action such as asking local shops and cafes to stock Fairtrade products, having exhibitions and tasting stalls, giving assemblies and persuading the staff room to go Fairtrade.
On Climate Change sixth formers are raising awareness about the threat of climate change and collecting ‘pledges’ in their schools and colleges wherby people promise to make lifestyle changes that will cut their carbon emissions.
As well as their groups, many more people get involved in People & Planet through receiving free email updates, which include introductions to the issues, campaign news, online actions, events listings and more.
They understand that some people want to be more involved than others, so you can switch between monthly or fortnightly emails (or none!) at any time.
