Conference - Growing the Future
Monday, April 19 2010, 09:15 - 15:30

The conference and consultation will discuss the best way forward for training in Wales in growing food. With threats of Climate Change and Peak Oil likely to lead to food security problems in the future it is vital that Wales looks at providing more of its own food. However skills have been lost and if we are to take on this challenge we need to reskill the population. The Growing the Future Partnership (National botanic Garden of Wales, Organic Centre Wales, Farming and Countryside Education, Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens and Appetite for Life) have been discussing the importance of teacher training and curriculum links with Foundation Phase to 14-19 Pathways, its links to ESDGC and health.
Elin Jones, Minister for Rural affairs will give the keynote speech and there are a number of exciting workshops looking at growing veg and keeping livestock at school as well as wider issues of farm visits and setting up school food coops.
This is an important event that will help shape how food education and training in Wales will be delivered in the future and therefore it is important that a many schools participate as possible.
