Be Nice To Nettles Week

Although nettles are looked upon as a weed by gardeners they are a favourite egg laying plant for ladybirds and by leaving a patch of nettles to develop in your garden, you will be helping them to increase their numbers. Ladybirds are great for the garden they, and their larvae, will eat aphids, red spider mite, whitefly and other pests.

So to find out how you can get involved in this awareness week, from creating a nettle patch in your garden to trying out some of the nettle recipes, visit the Be Nice to Nettles Week website and celebrate the humble nettle! Go to www.nettles.org.uk/

National Vegetarian Week

During National Vegetarian Week this May you are being encouraged to Wake up to an exciting and tasty lifestyle! So why go veggie?
Well the most obvious reason is so that less animals are slaughtered - don't they deserve to live out their lives properly too?

It's also an incredibly healthy diet to follow and much better for the environment. A study found that livestock farming results in more gas emissions than the world's entire transport system!   www.nationalvegetarianweek.org/

Walk To School Week

The event is part of national charity Living Streets' Great British Walking Challenge, taking place throughout May - when thousands of people will be walking to school, work, or around their neighbourhoods.

Last year over 1 million children in over 4000 schools ditched the school run as part of Walk to School Week. We offer resources to help parents, children, schools and local authorities to run fun events and activities to raise awareness about walking to school, and this year we have a fantastic range of resources based around Strider's Walking Challenge, where classrooms can embark upon a virtual journey from Lands End to John O'Groats across Walk to School Week.  www.sustrans.org.uk/resources/in-the-news/The-easy-way-to-get-to-school
